Decimate Metal Fest Artist Interview

1. What does playing Decimate Metalfest mean to you as a band?

1. To us, Decimate is an opportunity for us to perform on a mixed bill to a mixed audience.

Different bands and different fans. We are not a band that thrives on social media, so

festivals like Decimate are a great way for us to get new people talking about Riot City.

2. What part of your sound or performance do you think the Millet crowd will

enjoy most?

2. I think what will resonate most with people is that although we play fast and mean, it

doesn’t need to come with some fake, tough-guy image. We want to have fun, and we

believe that if we’re having fun, the audience is going to have a blast.

3. How do you get ready for a festival show compared to a regular venue show?

3. We treat every show like it’s the big one. We play every stage like it’s the big one. To us,

there is no difference in how to approach it. The ritual remains the same.

4. What do you like about performing in smaller Alberta towns like Millet?

4. I’m a small town kind of person, so it’s right up my alley. What’s cool about festivals in

places like Millet is it brings people from all over to share in a common cause. The size of

the town becomes irrelevant. It’s similar to small town gigs in Europe. Hopefully the locals

aren’t driven too mad.

5. Do you have any memorable or funny festival stories from past shows?

5. We have had the opportunity to play so many great festivals. A few years ago we got to

play Wacken along with bands like Maiden, Helloween, Megadeth. The list goes on. I got a

rare opportunity to interrupt Bruce Dickinson as he was scoping out the buffet to find

something to eat. Cale and I got our photo taken with him and I thought I was going to have

a heart attack. For whatever reason, that was probably the most stress I’ve ever been under

haha.

6. What can fans expect from your set this year, anything new or different?

6. We will be playing our favourite songs to play. Including some songs that we have not

played live many times. I feel like the setlist is our best, and the most complete

representation of our work as a band.

7. Which other bands at Decimate are you excited to see or play alongside, and

why?

7. I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with Famous Strangers. Great performers and

absolutely great people. Also, The Cadavor Dog has been added to the bill. They’re best

friends of ours so I’m excited to get to spend more time with them.
