PRE‑BREAKER: Alberta’s Crossover Metal Juggernaut Pushes Toward Their Next Chapter
Alberta has always had a reputation for producing heavy bands with grit in their teeth and diesel in their veins, but few embody that spirit as completely as Pre‑Breaker, the crossover metal/hardcore outfit rising out of Edmonton and rooted in Fort Saskatchewan. They’re loud, fast, and unapologetically abrasive. Exactly the kind of band I love!
Pre‑Breaker’s sound is a collision of thrash‑driven riffs, hardcore urgency, and a rawness that feels carved straight out of the prairie concrete. Their catalogue including tracks like Carriers of Death, Shot in the Face, The Hunter, and Decayed Grudge showcases a band that thrives on intensity. These aren’t songs built for passive listening; they’re pit song, ment to inspire high kicks, windmill arm flailing, intense moshing, and all sorts of HC moves.
Their lineup Justin Olson (vocals), Wes Retzlaff (bass), Dexter McKale (lead guitar), Jake Retzlaff (rhythm guitar), and Kyle Glysinskie (drums) forms a tight, aggressive unit that leans into the crossover tradition while carving out their own identity. The band’s presence on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more (all linked through their official Linktree) has helped them build a growing following across Western Canada.
Pre‑Breaker’s live résumé is equally impressive. They’ve shared stages with heavy hitters like KEN Mode and Bodybox, and their name has appeared on festival lineups including Moments Fest 2024. Their shows are known for their energy a mix of precision, adrenaline, and the kind of crowd engagement that turns a performance into a full‑body experience.
Their discography continues to expand, with releases such as Born for War (April 30, 2025), The Hunter (October 6, 2023), and earlier singles that helped define their sound. Their Bandcamp page remains the most complete archive of their work, offering streaming and downloads for fans who want to dive deeper.
