INTERVIEW - NIGHTHAVEN
INTERVIEW - NIGHTHAVEN

1. How has being an Edmonton‑based artist shaped your sound and the stories you tell through your music?
Edmonton is definitely a hard rock town. That is really one of the common threads that binds us as a group. Outside of that we are actually a really diverse group with very different musical journeys and personal perspectives.
2. What part of your life or environment most often inspires the first spark of a new track?
Often it's the need to escape the every day of life and to retreat into a mental state of mind where you can let everything go, if only, for a while. An instrument can really help drain anxiety and often the need or drive to write is driven by that need to purge away the noise that is really just every day living.
3. Which artists or genres have had the biggest influence on your style and evolution?
Each one of us tend to have varied tastes under the rock/metal umbrella ranging from pop punk to hard rock to alternative to heavy metal which has resulted in our somewhat groove/progressive metal sound.
4. How do you approach blending your personal experiences with broader themes your listeners can connect to?
With the combination of deep metal groove and relatable lyrics often metaphorical about life and the world we are currently living in.
5. What do you hope people feel when they hear your music for the first time?
We hope people feel the groove and need to rock but also be able to relate to the messages in our songs.
6. How has your sound changed over time, and what pushed that growth?
With our mixed tastes, we produce an almost groove/progressive metal sound similar to bands like Lacuna coil, Evanescence, etc. Since we formed at the end of 2023, we are still discovering our sound but you can expect all our music to reach a dynamic range of sounds and feel as Nighthaven is a kitchen with at least 5 chefs.
7. What’s the hardest part of performing live?
Technology. We are automated but sometimes things don’t always work. The show must go on though and we find a way no matter the challenges that arise.
8. What’s something about your creative or recording process that might surprise people?
We originally started as just a studio project and have been working with a talented producer at Catalyst Records who is also our sound guy at a lot of our shows.
