INTERVIEW - O.C.O.D

INTERVIEW with O.C.O.D. Vocalist Jason Kolins.
1. How did you all meet each other?
JK- I met Ken when I was 15 or 16 in 1989 or 1990. His band Grey Skies (Devin Townsend's first band), was opening up for my friend's band Caustic Thought.
I don't remember the interaction but we were more than likely introduced to each other through mutual friends at the show, which is the same story for everyone but Richard as well. I met Kyle around 1995, probably at a Punk show that he was putting on out in Langley, BC. Rodney, I met around 15 years ago, same situation, and Richard, (who is a lifelong friend of Ken's from Winnipeg, and still resides there), I oddly didn't meet until last year in January of 2025, after the record was finished, and he flew in for the first band rehearsal weekend we had.
2. Who writes the lyrics, and what usually inspires them?
JK- So far, the lyrics have been written solely by myself.
I have always written about personal things going on in my life, and stuff going on in the world that I feel strongly about. This continues with O.C.O.D.
3. What is your favorite song to play live and why?
JK- Sirens, which lyrically is written and inspired partially about my son, who is Trans and some of the things that he went through when coming out. Mainly with his best friend's parents not letting him have any contact with their daughter because of it, and then removing both their kids from the school they all went to shortly after, as the school openly supported LGBQT+. The song is also about the ignorance and hate that so many people still have towards anyone that is different and not straight, and asks why and how they can hate someone for that, when in most cases they don't even understand what they are so against in the first place, yet continue to spread their pre-conceived notions, hate and lies.
4. What is the biggest mistake you’ve made as a band so far?
JK- Starting it!!! lol
No, but initially having now ex- members that wasted and cost us a lot of time and money would be my answer.
5. If you could tour anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?
JK- Honestly, I would love to go back and tour Europe again, even though I've already been there twice with a previous band, there is still a lot of smaller countries that I've never made it to, and Europe rules!
6. What is the first you remember buying with your own money?
JK- It was Michael Jackson's Thriller album in 1982 when I was 8. No shame! FTW! Quiet Riot- Metal Health was next though.
7. What’s next for this band?
JK- We have 3 separate short, one week tours this summer. First, Western Canada the beginning of June, then B.C in August and Ontario / Quebec in September. After that, hopefully we can write and put out a new album in 2027, do more touring and continue the cycle. O.C.O.D. Until Infinity!
