INTERVIEW - STILL THERE

INTERVIEW - STILL THERE EDMONTON NEW MUSIC MAGAZINE NEW INTERVIEWS MUSIC JOURNALIST

1. How did you all meet each other?

Mike (Guitarist) and Tevin (Drummer/Vocalist) met through a mutual friend and started a band together before Still There, called You Take The Bus When You're Dead. After we both moved on from that band, we wanted to start over fresh and Mike had met someone from work who was a bass player, so the three of us played together for a while. Unfortunately, that bassist ended up moving to Vancouver, and then that's where Eric came in. We'd both known Eric for many years through the Calgary music scene; he had played in a couple of bands we both knew, so we both talked about asking him to fill in, so he offered to help out temporarily, and he eventually just became our new permanent bass player. Couldn't be happier!

2. Who writes the lyrics, and what usually inspires them?

Tevin writes all the final lyrics, although there was a time when Mike wrote some poetry as inspiration, and so we kind of co-opted it together and it turned into a song that we put out on our split with Sun Up Sun Down.

3. What is your favorite song to play live and why?

Eldritch, the last song on our debut EP. It's a crowd pleaser, it's got a little bit of everything in it, and so we all have our own favorite parts. Anything with the Glockenspiel in it is extra fun!

4. What is the biggest mistake you’ve made as a band so far?

This is a really hard question! I'd have to say probably that we don't record or write very quickly. We haven't had any releases come out for the last handful of years, partially because of covid, but mostly because of other scheduling, conflicts and time management haha. We're hoping to change that this year and next, because we're cooking up a whole bunch of new stuff finally!

5. If you could tour anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?

Anywhere? Japan is definitely up there on the dream list. The scene there is super cool and friends of ours have toured there in the past with nothing but good things to say. Probably more realistically, though, we're hoping to do cross Canada someday soon.

6. What is the first album each of you remembers buying with your own money?

Mike: Green Day - Insomniac

Tevin: Dashboard Confessional - The Swiss Army Romance

Eric: Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

7. What’s next for this band after this show?

Taking a couple months to get back to writing. We've got some more shows planned in June and July, and then back to the studio again after that. Hoping to have a full length in people's hands by next year!
