INTERVIEW - AVIARY ANNIVERSARY PT.2

Arlo Mavrick
What was your first Aviary experience?
My first Aviary experience was participating in a rehearsal for the 10th Annual 5 Artists 1 Love concert. I don’t think the venue had even opened up yet.
What was your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience at the Aviary as a patron was watching Shout Out Out Out Out. They’re one of my favorite bands to watch live, and that night they brought the house down. It was a master class.
Who are you looking forward to share the stage with most this weekend?
I’m really excited to see Misfortune Tellers and Haidee. I’ve seen some of Misfortune Tellers’ videos online, and they look like a fun band to watch. Haidee and I recently played a show together, but I wasn’t able to see the full show, so I look forward to finally catching a full set from her. She has a really stellar band behind her.
What can people expect from you in 2026? New music? Any festivals?
On the horizon, I have new music on the way that I hope to start releasing this summer. I have been selected for a few festivals, but I can’t share them as of yet.
What’s one thing you want people from outside YEG to know about our music scene?
I would love for people to know how vibrant and talented our scene is. While we have been exporting a lot of great artists, there is still the misconception that there isn’t anything really happening or worthwhile coming out of here.
Mercy Funk
What was your first Aviary experience?
It’s hard to recall the very first because we basically live at The Aviary. We were present for their opening week, and have been back countless times since as performers and audience members. The Aviary is such a large part of the development of Mercy Funk. Since their the
What was your most memorable experience?
It has to be one of our many LoveFest shows. I don’t know of any other venue that would accommodate our grand schemes like The Aviary. Hundreds of decorated hearts, and a 10 foot marquee sign, and an 11 piece band ? No problem.
Who are you looking forward to share the stage with most this weekend?
We are big fans of Major Love , and have been wanting to share a stage with them for ages. Thanks for making our dreams come true!
What can people expect from you in 2026? New music? Any festivals?
We are working towards recording and releasing new music. A few fan faves, and some brand new material.
What’s one thing you want people from outside YEG to know about our music scene?
We’ve got bBig small town energy here in the best way. and such a strong community.
Dylan Ella
What was your first Aviary experience?
I played the aviary for the first time in January of 2017!! Opening for Daniel Romano
What was your most memorable experience?
I think my most memorable experience was the Return of the Dogman show I put on in 2024. It was great to have my old friends back in town and I always feel proud to promote my own show at the aviary.
I’m very excited to play with another stellar female songwriter - Haidee!! Her band is killer
What can people expect from you in 2026? New music? Any festivals?
No new music as I just released a project in November of 2025, but hoping to write some new material this year!
What’s one thing you want people from outside YEG to know about our music scene?
YEG music has a special place in my heart as it’s very welcoming and accepting to a wide variety of acts!!

What was your first Aviary experience?
The two Tims have worked for the brothers Muz at one point or another, working door, curating art for the Artery, or doing sound at the Aviary. That connection has been there for a while. It's hard to remember being there for the first time, there's been so many great shows over the years.
Tim R does remember looking for the new building on 111 for the first time and just knowing it when he saw it, even though it was nondescript.
What was your most memorable experience?
Tim R: Playing the song Coat of Arms for Philip and Mark with my band Electricity For Everybody!. It was their favourite e4e! Song.
Tim H + Desiree: Selfishly, it was getting to open the Field + Stream vinyl rerelease last year. Smokey and the band rule and it was a really special night in the dead of winter with a room full of pals.
Who are you looking forward to share the stage with most this weekend?
- Honestly, every single band on our bill could headline a great show, and we've got some imposter syndrome going on. There are so many buds on the bill! As established above, we love our sweet boy Smokey. We've been trying to sort a show out with Tebby, who's been blowing everyone away, so this worked out great. Al3o very excited to 3ee PI33GRL3 for the fir3t time.
What can people expect from you in 2026? New music? Any festivals?
- Now that we're back on the horse after some illness and injury, we've got a new album simmering. Watch for some SK dates and a Western Canada tour this summer. Probably some extra annoying Instagram posts in relation to all of the above. Maybe you'll want to unfollow us.
What’s one thing you want people from outside YEG to know about our music scene?
- This city has always had that underdog spirit and that certainly bleeds into our music scene. While there are a handful of really amazing bands everyone's heard of and wants to see, there's so many new bands bubbling up right now, and you really don't have to look hard to find them. If you only had 20 bucks in your pocket, you'd be hard-pressed to choose which show to attend, on any weekend, really.
