INTERVIEW - AVIARY ANNIVERSARY PT. 4

Farhad Khosravi
What was your first Aviary experience?
My first experience at the Aviary goes back probably to 2019 when a friend was hosting a birthday music and performance event at the Aviary and asked me to perform. Since then, I have performed at the Aviary quite a few times and I have always enjoyed the vibe and the audience, even though acoustic instrumental is not a type of music you might usually hear at a venue like the Aviary.
What was your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience was when I performed with a five piece band, including santur (hammered dulcimer), violin, cello, bass, and percussion, with the fabulous guest singer Roya Yazdanmehr joining on a few songs. I could've believe playing classical music could be so well received at such an intimate venue.
Who are you looking forward to share the stage with most this weekend?
All the artists on the list are truly amazing. I know and heard many over the years and feel truly honored to be sharing the stage with such talented musicians. Edmonton has a wonderful, alive and expanding music scene.
What can people expect from you in 2026? New music? Any festivals?
I am currently in the process of mixing my third album which is coming out later this year. I'm very excited about this project as it has been years in the making. It is about an hour and a half of original instrumental music written for santur (my instrument), string quartet, and percussion. The music is inspired by a book of short stories in Persian and narrates the moods and events of the stories through instrumental music.
What’s one thing you want people from outside YEG to know about our music scene?
What I would like the people outside of Edmonton to know about our music scene is the diversity of styles and genres, with up and coming bands and artists, that exist in our city. Any music event you go to in the city you will discover a new talented and creative artist humbly sharing their music with their community.
