INTERVIEW - BAD OVER WORSE

INTERVIEW - BAD OVER WORSE

INTERVIEW - BAD OVER WORSE

1. How did you come up with your band name?

In our first band meeting, we were discussing potential names and “Bad  Over Worse” was suggested by our guitarist Reagan. He was watching an  episode of 90 Day Fiancee and he saw that one of the Columbian people on  it was mistranslated as saying “I’ll take the bad over worse.”

2. How would you describe your music to someone new?

We  make music for depressed ex-theatre kids and bisexual women who can’t  pull other women (aka our lead singer, Natalia.) In terms of genre, we  mix influences of post-hardcore, riot grrrl, pop-punk, and midwest emo  to create our original sound.

3. What’s the story behind your latest song/album?

Our  upcoming album “Violent Ambience” is mostly about interpersonal,  political, and societal issues that women face every day. Our lead  singer Natalia has written the lyrics for every song on the album. The  one with the best story behind it is “Pseudo Paramour” . It’s about a  woman that Natalia was in love with when she was in high school. They  said “I love you’s” and looked at apartments together, she taught Nat  how to scissor. But she would bolt as soon as the guys she was talking  to wanted her again and only come back to Nat when she got sick of men  again. Then one day she just disappeared entirely and in some ways Nat  never stopped loving her. Average WLW experience, am I right?

4. What’s your favorite part about making music together?

Bullying  Reagan and having the opportunity to create music with our best friends  in a space where our genre is looked down on, and get to show the profs  and parents who didn’t believe in us that they’re geriatric idiots. A  lot of us grew up needing to fight to be allowed to play the music we  love and now we get to do it together everyday.

5. What’s the best part of performing live?

Feeling  all the energy coming at us from the crowd is such an indescribable  feeling. We don’t get to have that interaction with people in our  everyday lives but at shows, we get to dissociate from our problems,  live in the moment, and feel most at home.

6. Which musicians inspire you the most?

As  a band, our biggest influences are Pierce The Veil, Ice Nine Kills, and  Destroy Boys. Individually, Natalia’s biggest vocal influence is Maria  Brink, Logan’s drumming influence is Tim Alexander, Reagan’s Guitar  influence is Tosin Abasi, and Sophie’s bass influence is Victoria Ge  Angelis.

7. What are you working on next?

We  are currently working on recording our debut album “Violent Ambience,”  shooting music videos for the lead singles, and planning a tour across  Alberta for August 2026.
