INTERVIEW - MYASIS
INTERVIEW - MYASIS

From Beau Danger - vocalist.
How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard heavy music before?
We are a Nu Metal Revival / Alternative Metal band. Our goal is to blend the old-school sound of late 90s / early 2000s metal with a more modern sound, sprinkled with our own unique flavor. We try to veer away from the typical metalcore sound which seems to be dominating the scene these days and do something a little fresh and different. Our members all come from diverse musical backgrounds, so there's a little something for everyone. We have fast and heavy, slow and groovy, clean vocals, harsh vocals, we do it all!
What’s the story behind how your band started?
Nothing really too crazy, it just started as a group of friends who all had experience in the Edmonton music scene over the years and wanted to start an original metal project. We formed in the tail-end of 2018 / beginning of 2019. We started off a bit more experimental, but as time went on, we decided we wanted to delve more into the Nu Metal Revival direction. The pandemic hit pretty much right as we started getting some solid stuff written, so that kind of set us back a while. We didn't play our first show until 2021, but we definitely came out with a BANG to say the least lol. The rest is history.
Which local venues or events have shaped your journey in the Edmonton scene?
We've played all over the place as far as the Edmonton area, but the two places we seem to haunt the most are Rendezvous Pub and the Starlite Room. Special shoutout to the awesome folks at 2 Doors Down. We also just played a show at Co-Lab for the first time, and that was rad. There are lots of great venues in the area, and we hope to rock them ALL!
Who are some Edmonton or Alberta bands that inspire you or that you love playing with?
The Edmonton metal scene, and Alberta metal scene in general, has some incredible talent, and we are truly honored to be counted among their number. We hate to name specific bands in fear of forgetting someone, but we'll just name a few bands that we frequently play with and love the shid out of: YungLink, The Myopia Condition (Red Deer), The 21st Agenda (Red Deer), Repulse Reprise, Our Last Crusade (Calgary), Heir To Ash, Withered Days - the list goes on... A
couple bands that we've recently made friends with are Spit and Oceans Under Stars - do yourselves a favor and check 'em out if you haven’t already. Also, honorable mentions to EXITS and NightHaven, as we share members with those bands. Bottom line - if you show up to basically any metal show in the Edmonton area, you are going to have a good time!
What’s your favorite part about performing for Edmonton crowds?
Edmonton peeps love metal of all kinds and it's always great to see both familiar and new faces out at all kinds of shows. Everyone is so nice and supportive. The scene is thriving and it's only getting better!
Can you share a memorable moment from a show you’ve played in the city?
Nothing too super-crazy has happened at a show that we can recall off the top of our heads, but a great memory for us will be filming our live music video for our song "Swallow" at 2 Doors Down in Edmonton last Summer. It was such a great night, and all the homies came out and thrashed hard to make the video absolutely stellar. Big shoutout to the boiz at Shadowscape Pictures for doing that video for us. Both videos they've done for us turned out absolutely fantastic.
What can fans expect from your upcoming releases or shows?
Well, we just dropped our debut full-length album "Authorized Personnel Only" back in October of last year. If you haven't yet, go check it out wherever you get your music. Right now, we are mainly focusing on writing our second album, but we are playing Alternative Waves festival down in Medicine Hat in June, so we are super stoked for that. But yeah, probably nothing as far as major releases for the foreseeable future until we get a bunch more songs written, but keep your eyes peeled for more shows, or who knows, maybe we'll record and release some covers or something in the meantime. Always somethin’ cookin'!
