INTERVIEW - QUIET WINTER

INTERVIEW - QUIET WINTER

Who are the members of and what do they play?

- We have three members. Myself, Brandon, on guitar. Laura on keyboards. Taylor on drums.

How would you classify your music?

-  It's a blend of ambient and post-rock. Our live show leans much more  into the post-rock world with bombastic drums, noise, and  gratuitous dynamics.

Is there any inspiration for the band?

-  We each bring our own personal inspirations to the live sound as it is a  very collaborative approach. I'm always happy to have moments of  improvisation in the set as well. Laura is a classically trained  pianist, and Taylor is a producer and brought a theatre style production  to our live set. Personally, community radio was huge for sparking a  love of ambient music. I used to drive quite a bit for work, and there  were many mornings around 7am driving through the city listening to  ambient music. Other influences would include Sigur Ros, Explosions in  the Sky, Tim Hecker, and King Crimson. Those influences all seep into  the music we make.

What are your plans for 2026?

-  We are doing this current tour, and then filming a video for a song  when we get back. We are sitting on a record that I think is quite good.  Looking forward to planning that release. I will probably leak it to  our email list after the tour. It's quietwintermusic@gmail.com if you would like to be added.

What would be your dream collaboration?

-  Working with Taylor and Laura is the dream collab. I was a fan of their  music (36?, and Laura Hickli) before knowing them personally. And hey,  it's goin pretty well. I feel like I want to give a nod to some big name  act, however there are so many local musicians that I know are good  people that I'd rather work with. Especially if it's with an exciting  instrument, or unique production style.

What's your favorite Youtube channel?

Currently chesswithAkeem. I am hyper fixated on chess for some reason. That's a strange new turn for this year for sure.

What advice would you give new artists?

It's  a marathon, not a race. Don't burn yourself out. Also, feel free to  reach out if you want some help booking in Calgary - my email is up  above or @quietwintermusic on insta.

Anything else you want the viewers to know?

Our  live show is quite different from the recorded music at this time. It's  much louder. Come to our show May 26 at Blakbar with Whiling and FACT.
