INTERVIEW - THE DENIM DADDIES
INTERVIEW - THE DENIM DADDIES

1. What's the story behind the name "The Denim Daddies"?
The Denim Daddies name was born out of a drink that Craig Martell had created at the Wunderbar (RIP) years ago called the Denim Daddy. I believe it was gin, mint bitters, and Stiegl Radler, but those details are a bit blurry.
2. How would you describe your sound to someone hearing you for the first time?
Our steel player Booker likes to describe us as roadhouse music, which is a blend of country and rock & roll.
3. What's your favorite song to perform live and why?
Brushstrokes is a favourite to perform live as we get to sing a lot of three part harmonies, and Booker and Sahil get to stretch their legs a bit and play lengthy solos at the end.
4. If you could open for any band, past or present, who would it be?
Opening for The Flying Burrito Brothers with Gram Parsons would be near the top as they are a huge influence on our sound. Presently, if Silverada (formerly Mike & The Moonpies) ever came through Canada, we would love to hop on the bus with them.
5. What's the most memorable thing a fan has ever done at one of your shows?
Last year we played The 40 in Brandon, Manitoba, which is basically a VLT bar with a massive stage. They have a wall of Canadian legacy acts that have played there like Trooper, Kim Mitchell, Toronto and others. During a set break, security pulled us aside to show a video of an intoxicated woman blowing some sort of powder all over the stage. As she was being escorted out of the building, she drunkenly explained that the "powder" was the ashes of her late father, Tim.
6. What's one album that the whole band can agree on for a road trip?
Warren Zevon self-titled always goes over well
7. What can people expect from your new music?
People can expect our next album to have a lot of harmonies, tongue in cheek lyrics, and a whole lotta energy
