TRUSTER INTERVIEW EDMONTON NEW MUSIC MAGAZINE YEG NEW MUSIC YYC ALBERTA AB PUNK METAL FESTIVALS

How did you all meet each other?

We were all a part of the DIY music scene in Edmonton where we played in bands and were in each other’s orbit for some time. We ended up getting to know one another through friends and played in other bands together before this current lineup of Truster started.

Who writes the lyrics, and what usually inspires them?

Stacy writes the lyrics. There are many inspirations, but currently really getting into the idea of reclaiming power to an almost omnipotent degree.

What is your favorite song to play live and why?

The Flood and Wretch Collector are fun because they go hard. Recently we’ve been really enjoying playing our cover of Mitski’s “I Bet on Losing Dogs”.

What is the biggest mistake you’ve made as a band so far?

Just missing every single grant deadline possible.

If you could tour anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?

We would love to go all over Europe and Japan.

What is the first album each of you remembers buying with your own money?

Jordan’s was Weird Al’s Dare to be Stupid, Kevin’s was the Batman Returns Soundtrack, and Stacy put their allowance together with their sister to buy No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom.

What’s next for this band after this show?

We have some exciting shows coming up and are releasing our full length on vinyl this summer, followed by a tour. Immediately after the show will just involve bed.
