How did your band come together, and what inspired you to start making music?

The band started with Noah and Wyatt, who met at MacEwan University. They bonded over their shared love of music. Noah mentioned he started learning drums, Wyatt mentioned he played bass, and the two decided to start a band together. They later met Lorenzo through school as well and brought him on as guitarist. With the instrumental lineup coming together, the only thing missing was a lead singer. After a Facebook ad for auditions, they found Elena. We realized that when everything came together, it could be something real. The rest is history!

How would you describe your sound to someone hearing you for the first time?

Our sound is primarily rock, with heavy influences from alternative, pop-punk, and classic rock. It’s grungy and energetic, but we still love the emotional and atmospheric moments so it isn’t always what you expect.

If you need a visual, imagine The Pretty Reckless meets Metric meets your average divorced dad. Black leather, dark purple, and some grungy alt-rock energy.

What makes your band different from other emerging artists in Edmonton?

I think what makes us stand out is that we are a group of artists coming from different backgrounds, personalities, and musical influences, but we’re all brought together by the same passion. Music. That mix gives us a really unique dynamic that helps shape a sound that is genuine and unpredictable. We’re all either completely new to the music scene or returning after many years away, but we’ve improved so much together over just a few months. We’re ambitions, dedicated, and constantly learning from each other. We’re already working on our first album, so people get to see us develop our identity and grow as a band in real time. We’re not trying to claim that we’ve reinvented rock. We’re just trying to make it our own.

Which local or international musicians have influenced your music the most?

Each member brings their own musical influences to the table, so our songs pull from different eras, styles, artists and genres, rather than trying to sound like one specific artist. The Pretty Reckless has always been a major inspiration, while bands like Green Day, Metric, The Cranberries, Ghost, and the Gin Blossoms have shaped our sound. On the punk side of things, PUP is a huge influence, especially when it comes to bass writing, while Red Hot Chilli Peppers have inspired some of the approach to bass and rhythm. We also draw inspiration from local artists like Monks on Call. Our individual tastes are different, and that mix is a big part of what makes our sound ours.

What has been the biggest challenge of starting a band in Edmonton?

Honestly, there have been a lot of challenges but the biggest has been simply finding the time and coordinating everyone’s schedules. Between school, work, and everything else going on, finding time to rehearse, write, perform, and promote ourselves can be difficult. A lot of it has been living off a hope and a prayer and making things work whenever we can. Finding the right people was another challenge early on. Finding people who really fit the band’s dynamic and personality. Once we found the right lineup though, the music started to come together much more naturally.

What message or feeling do you hope people take away from your songs?

At the end of the day, we want people to feel something when they listen to our music. Whether that’s finding a sense of confidence and self-respect, connecting with something personal, or simply having a good time and forgetting about their stress for a while. A lot of our writing touches on personal growth, resilience, and learning to value yourself. We live in a world where media can have a huge impact on how people see themselves, so we want to remind people that they should be their own number one. We also believe that there’s something powerful about documenting where you are in life and looking back at how far you’ve come. Sometimes, though, it doesn’t have to be that deep. Sometimes we just want people to feel the energy, have fun, and forget about whatever is stressing them out for a few minutes.

What's next for the band, any upcoming shows, recordings, or new music fans should watch for?

We’ve got some exciting things coming up! We recently wrote a new song called “Lion’s Den,” which we’re really excited to share with everyone. We’ll be performing it at IzzyFest on August 29th at Six Pack Saloon in Fort Saskatchewan to help support the Mustard Seed so fans can look forward to hearing it live for the first time. We’re also continuing to work on new music and developing our sound, so there’s definitely more to come!
