INTERVIEW - WOMEN OF SONG

INTERVIEW - WOMEN OF SONG

What inspired Caroca Entertainment Group to create Women of Song, and why was it important to spotlight female-led Alberta artists in this format?

As a performer myself I wanted something that would stand out, something that would hold meaning to it. Caroca Entertainment group stands for Unity through Music. I wanted to give extraordinary Alberta women a bigger spotlight while also having musical genres collide. A musical Big-Bang! Welcome to our musical Universe.

The lineup spans indie pop, country, folk-jazz-soul, and punk-ska-rock. How did you curate such diverse artists while maintaining a cohesive concert experience?

That was the Vision. To create a unique experience for people to really enjoy. It’s different sounds, connected by great songs and artists who put their whole heart into what they do.

3. What qualities were you looking for when selecting the performers featured in this year's event?

Talent, character, and a real commitment to our music community. I took my time handpicking this lineup. I wanted artists who deserve that stage. The best of the best. We have so many talented local artists and the lineup for the night is nothing short of incredible!

4. Many of the featured artists are known for personal songwriting and storytelling. How does the singer-songwriter tradition shape the vision behind Women of Song?

We all have songs that take us back to a specific time on our life. Personal songwriting creates those connections. These artists are sharing a piece of themselves, and I want audiences to leave with a smile on their face looking forward to the next show.

5. What impact do you hope this showcase will have on audience perceptions of women working across different genres in the music industry?

I want people to appreciate the range, talent, and hard work these women bring—and keep supporting them beyond this show.

6. How does hosting the event at the Arden Theatre enhance the experience for both the performers and the audience?

As a performer, I know how much work goes into stepping onstage. A venue like the Arden gives that work the setting it deserves—and audiences a proper night out.

7. If Women of Song becomes an annual tradition, what role do you see it playing in supporting and growing Alberta's female music community?

I’d love it to help Alberta’s female artists reach new audiences, build connections, and find more opportunities. Each year, we can introduce fresh talent and grow a community that keeps showing up for them. More to come!

We would  love to include this acknowledgment of our community partner:

We’re honoured to have Women United, part of United Way, as our official community partner. They’re doing fantastic work, and I encourage people to look them up, get involved, and support them. Bringing people together through music means even more when those connections help our community.
