PROFILE - MIDNIGHT CHANNEL

Midnight Channel (Lethbridge, AB) made a powerful debut with their album “Gemini Sunrise”, hitting #10 on the National Earshot! Jazz Charts, establishing themselves as a rising force in Canada’s jazz scene. Their sound blends the boundary-pushing spirit of 1960s cosmic free jazz with the vibrant energy of modern jazz. Infused with elements of contemporary post-bop, Japanese fusion, and neo-soul grooves, Midnight Channel brings a sound that’s both rooted in tradition yet refreshingly modern—perfect for longtime jazz fans and first-time listeners alike. Their live performances are an explosion of energy, soaring improvisations, and contagious joy, transforming the stage into a sacred space where audiences are held spellbound.
2025 Plans:
We’re stepping into places we’ve never gone before — ambitiously excited and nervous as hell. The big milestone is our first-ever vinyl release on September 12, followed by our first Western Canada tour. We can’t wait to get weird out on the prairies. After the tour, we’ll be back home supporting some Alberta pals like Chin Music and The Way Ahead Trio in November. Come winter, we return to our roots at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden for the Winter Lights Festival — the place where we first met and started playing together three years ago. We’re endlessly grateful to the Lethbridge community for giving us space to grow and get strange.
Dream Collab:
We'll keep it local. We’d love to link up with Calgary greats Ginger Beef — their flute work would be wild on a track. We’re also big fans of Ghobunmi’s video style, so a collab on a music video would be a dream. Beyond that, there are so many rappers and vocalists in the area we’d love to vibe with — let’s make some BADBADNOTGOOD-style chaos together. Hit us up.
Fav Anime:
Tough one. The band offered some suggestions: Panty & Stocking, JoJo Part 2, Blue Giant.
Advice for new artists:
Don’t get stuck chasing perfection in the practice room. Play with your friends, create a lot, and let some of it stay rough. The important part is connecting with people — not waiting until you feel “good enough.” You’re already enough.
We feel like we are building a scene and connecting with fellow weirdos on the prairies. We hope you come out and connect.
out.
