Who are the members of your band/crew and what do they play?
I have had many different band members and DJs perform with me over the years. For this particular run, I am keeping it simple. My friend, legendary hip hop producer DJ Hoppa will be my DJ. I play guitar and rap/sing, he DJs and does some vocals with me as well. I wish I could bring my whole band to all my shows, but if I did I would be bankrupt.
How would you classify your music?
My music is mostly hip hop and it tends to be funky with simple melodic hooks. It is essentially children's music with bad words and breakbeats. I also switch it up and do random little funny country songs and bossa nova grooves. The subject matter is usually about my personal life. Micro stuff rather than macro... I don't dissect big sociopolitical ideas or anything, I just talk about my own problems and relationships and what not. People relate to it I think, since we are all kinda the same.
Is there any inspiration for your music?
Most of my inspiration is life itself. Something happens to me then I write a song about it. For example, many years ago I was really attracted to this girl who sold me marijuana at a dispensary. When I left the store I was happily walking home, still kinda smitten by her aura, and I just started singing a song about her. By the time I got home I had the chorus for my song "Dispensary Girl". That is pretty standard for how my songs come. That said, it happens differently every time. I am also, of course, inspired by all the other music I have heard in my life.
What are your plans for 2026?
My primary plans for 2026 are continuing to raise my 2 year old daughter. That is my full time gig and all this music stuff is hard to do while that is happening. Strangely enough, I am really doing well in my career currently while the fatherhood is in full swing. I definitely will be releasing an album with DJ Hoppa in the spring called "Highway Hotel". Besides that just writing, recording, playing gigs, and dadding up.
What would be your dream collaboration?
People often ask me about what would be my dream collaboration. Honestly I never thought about music in that way. If I really were to collaborate with my heroes I feel like I would just be nervous and embarrassed. For example, I love Vampire Weekend. I don't want to collaborate with Vampire Weekend they don't need my nonsense, they good. I grew up making music with my identical twin brother, so maybe that's why I don't really think about collaborating that much. I was born with the ultimate collaborator in terms of chemistry. All this said, I really do enjoy working with people, I just don't really "hope" or "dream" to work with people if that makes sense.
What's your favorite anime?
I have honestly don't know anything about anime. I was never into it, and I think it might be an age thing because all my friends who are younger than me like anime. I tried to watch one a few times and didn't get it.
What advice would you give new artists?
I would give them two pieces of advice... one, you are in a really weird time where people are just allowed to shit on your art anonymously to your virtual face (comments sections basically), so try no to take that stuff to heart. Think about the mentality of internet haters, they are sad, sad people. I know it's hard, but don't let them affect the way you make your art. Two, if you want to actually make a living doing music or art, you have to have ton of stamina. It will take a very long time for that to happen. Way longer than you hoped... stay the course!
Anything else you want the viewers to know?"
Come out to the show it will be fun! If you can't make it, that is ok too. But dude... just go cancel your other unimportant plans!"
