PUNKSGIVING INTERVIEW - TRASHED AMBULANCE

PUNKSGIVING INTERVIEW - TRASHED AMBULANCE

1. What does it mean to you to be part of Punksgiving this year?

It's always a blast! In the interest of full transparency, one of us is the main organizer so it's safe to say we'll always be on the bill for this one but it's been cool to see it grow and have an opportunity to play with some amazing bands right here in Red Deer!

2. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard
your music before?

We sound like a 90's So-cal punk band. We definitely all grew up listening to Bad Religion and NOFX but we also have been inspired by different bands of various genres throughout the years. Trashed Ambulance has changed personel a few times and every member leaves their mark and brings their own influences to the table. But if you wanted to describe us maybe you could say we use Modest Mouse chord progressions, with NOFX drum beats, Face to Face bass lines and Bad Religion oohz'n'ahhz but slightly off key and drunk.

3. What can fans expect from your set at Punksgiving that they won't
get anywhere else?

Bands always crank the energy up at Festivals as it's a friendly competition to not be the boring band at the show. But as for us personally, if you've seen us before, you'll know we have a big crowd participation moment in one of our songs. We've decided to retire it after PG3 so if you want to yell "motherf*#@!er" in our face one last time, your time is nigh!

4. How has the Alberta punk scene influenced your music and your
journey as an artist?

The scene is pretty amazing if you actually think about it. There are new bands popping up every day and some awesome promoters who have put the province on the map by bringing in bands who used to skip our part of the nation on their tours. Gone are the days of "Canadian tours" being only Toronto and Montreal. Every punk band knows there is an audience waiting for them here so let's keep it rolling. There are new festivals popping up all the time too and new opportunities for bands to play in front of new audiences.

As for the scene influencing us, we already said we stole our sound from California. Are you even listening???? Oh, this is a written interview? Fair enough. To answer your question, the scene hasn't directly influenced our writing process but our experiences as punk rockers living in Alberta definitely has had an effect! 5. What message or feeling do you hope people take away after watching
your performance?

That we are fun guys. *Insert Kawhi Leonard laugh* Yeah, we just want people to enjoy themselves and hit the mosh pit like it owes them money. If you wanna throw old veggies at us, consider throwing some eggs too. We're poor and an omelette sounds good.

6. Are there any songs in your set that hold special meaning for you, and why?

The band has been around for over a decade so there are lots of songs that have resonated with whoever, whenveer, however. Songs get stale and get dropped, other songs are revived and find their way back onto the set. We've started introducing some of our new songs into our setlist and our upcoming album will be the first release involving our new rhythm section so we're excited to play them live and see if anyone approves!

7. Punksgiving is about more than music. How important is community
and supporting local scenes to your band?

It's everything. We all have small children so we don't get out to as many shows as we'd like but we've been working on that. If you don't support others, they probably won't support you so it's important to do your part to keep the scene alive. We're always stoked to meet people who enjoy what we do so in turn, we make sure to tell our friends in bands that they suck and to just give up as much as possible.
