Woodhawk - Love Finds A Way
After a six-year wait, Calgary’s Woodhawk returns with Love Finds A Way, a triumphant album that showcases a band at the peak of its powers. Hailed by critics as their most impressive and mature work to date, this record proves the wait was well worth it.
The band’s signature stoner rock foundation is still present, but it’s now supercharged with the anthemic, twin-guitar spirit of classic acts like Thin Lizzy. The result is a powerful and melodic sound built on infectious, head-nodding grooves, frenetic guitar work, and a rock-solid rhythm section. Turner Midzain’s clear, passionate vocals cut through the heavy instrumentation, providing a compelling emotional anchor.
Lyrically, the album is a journey from darkness into light, born from a period of personal struggle for the band. This theme of hope and perseverance is woven throughout the tracklist. The choppy, energetic riffs of opener Grave Shaker explore themes of change, while the title track, Love Finds a Way, stands as a triumphant anthem about the power of friendship. The album’s ambitious eight-and-a-half-minute finale, Killing Time, masterfully builds from a semi-acoustic intro into a soaring, emotionally resonant epic, providing a perfect conclusion to the album's narrative.
From the raucous energy of trangers Ever After to the moody, keyboard-tinged doom of The Unholy Hand, the album is consistently engaging. It’s a banger from start to finish, successfully blending hard rock thunder with a sense of tender vulnerability.
Love Finds A Way is a highly recommended listen for any fan of heavy, melodic rock. It captures Woodhawk not just as skilled musicians, but as evolved songwriters who have crafted their finest and most relatable album yet.
