So I made it down to Chromozone the other night for the first time and caught a SPECTACULAR show featuring some of Edmonton’s BEST artists. Its unique layout had a couple rows of seating on a carpeted floor in front of a white curtain hiding a monstrous skeleton of a lighting system. The anticipation was max and I got a front row center seat to take in EVERYTHING.

   First up was Circle the Wolves, the stage curtain dropped and we were blasted with not only some powerful music but politically charged visuals. This female fronted gothic band combines metal, orchestral, piano, and wavetable synthesis with striking videos and a powerful message. Shimmer Johnson doesn’t hold back with messages of empowerment and forging your path in this increasingly trying times. The drumming was TOP NOTCH as well by the one and only Jay Roads.

   Void Souls absolutely killed it following CTW, a 5 piece from YYC rocks a post grunge metal influenced sound with a monstrously powerful front man Josh Evans. Performing hits like Ivy Queen and Little Angles paired with visuals striking and inspiring. Nationally played and with an EP out, Into The Darkness, they’re definitely a band ill seek out to catch again.

   Then the headline, socially conscious rap rock stars Revolution Engine took the stage with some black hole level gravity. In the game for a while their set showed how polished and energetic their sound is. The music combined with the awesome lighting made the entire set come alive. Kenny was alive and definitely got the crowd moving and grooving. While every song kicked maximum ass their cover of Guerrilla Radio was 125% of awesome. They have tons out including the album Fist and Flame as well as the EP Lower your weapons and a smack load of singles. They’re very active on the socials as well so hit them up and help support local music.

   A great night and a cool new (to me) venue. Ill def be checking it out again and glad I got some new tunes to rock on my playlists. Check them all out on all major streaming platforms and don’t sleep on the next Chromozone show!
