On December 16th, 2022, local hip hop artist Indycisive dropped his EP "Plugged In". A cohesive album that has to be listened to from start to finish in the order it is presented in.

The project is filled with intelligent lyricism that touches on the choke-hold social media has on modern day society; placed on top of a digitally inspired sounding backdrop. It uses creative sound bites throughout the project that helps take the listener inside the artist’s mind as he shares his thoughts on the digital world; how it has people chasing trends for likes and comments, and scrolling through our timelines that make us envy the lives people portray themselves as having on their socials, whether it's true or not, and how he copes with what is considered “the norm” in this digital era.

What i love and appreciate about this project the most is that in terms of each individual track, there are almost no hooks, and only one obvious chorus present in the entire project; one that cleverly suits the statement he's trying to make in that particular track. To me it proves that the only thing Ben Matheson (Indycysive) sets out to do with this EP was to make the listener think.

While there is nothing wrong with songs that have structure within themselves, such as a verse, a hook, a chorus, and a bridge, it is refreshing to see an artist not afraid to throw all of that out of the window, to tell a story and release it. Art, for art sake.

"Plugged In" both musically and lyrically is a brilliant body of work. One that in my opinion, deserves a visual project to match up with it! There is one music video for the opening track "Enter The Matrix", but i think this project definitely gives potential for a visual project of the EP as a whole.

Indycysive gets his point across throughout the project, but even if that wasn't the case, he makes sure to end the project with a clear and simple message that i think all of us can relate to; "Sometimes you just gotta unplug and live in the real world for a bit. You know?"

Cheers!
